Why the Wrong Focus Steals Your Best Energy
I felt it too.
The weight of Saturday’s events. The sirens of uncertainty. The ripple of fear that something larger, darker, more irreversible may be unfolding in the world.
Unusual for me, I sat in the living room glued to the news.
What do I feel—and should I respond in my little world?
Our world is divided, angry, and noisy. We are weary. And many are wired—constantly plugged into an information loop that feeds our fears more than it fortifies strength. Most of us know little about the full scope of history or facts, yet we cling to the version of the news that best confirms our own worldview.
But in moments like this—when the noise rises and the future feels uncertain—I’m offered more than a mirror of my fear.
I’m offered a choice:
To give in to fear—talking more than listening, fueling uncertainty, and feeding my own insecurity
OR
To dig deep, lead strong, and give myself—and the people around me—what we need most, no matter what is happening around us: Vision. Courage. Stability. Hope.
The Problem Isn’t Just the News. It’s Our Focus.
We all want to feel steady—like something is still under our control. When the world shakes, our minds scramble for something to hold onto.
But we don’t always grab the right thing.
We often cling to the loudest voice. The scariest story. The easiest distraction. Our own opinions.
And in the process, we give away our energy—our real security. The kind that fuels clear thinking. Strong leadership. Genuine influence.
“When emotions are high, intelligence is low.” —Tony Robbins
We don’t just lose focus and energy. We forget who we are at our best and what we are made for.
We slowly, unknowingly erode the strongest version of ourselves.
What’s the Powerful Shift?
It starts with a decision: I don’t let the world set my focus. I choose it.
I choose to build peace in my corner of the world. I choose to comfort others and offer hope—even when I need it too. I choose to create, not consume. I choose to serve others, not replay headlines. I choose to lead myself well—so I can lead others better.
It’s not always easy. But it’s always possible.
When my focus aligns with my purpose, energy returns. Clarity sharpens. Hope drowns out fear.
When it doesn’t, I feel scattered, small, and fearful.
Focus is a choice. And it shapes every choice that follows.
What Does Focus Look Like Right Now?
It’s not complicated. But it is intentional.
It looks like shutting down the news after 10 minutes instead of 45. It looks like starting the day with intentional quiet—prayer, reflection, choosing my mindset—before the world grabs hold of my thoughts. It looks like being fully present in one conversation instead of mentally juggling ten.
It looks like moving my body. Fueling it. Resting it. Not because it’s trendy—but because strength requires stewardship.
It’s asking myself every morning:
What do I want to multiply today—fear or faith?
Faith Reminds Me Where to Fix My Mind
The words “Fear not” appear in the Bible more than 365 times. That’s not a coincidence—it’s a daily invitation.
My faith calls me to live with a larger view. A longer view. An eternal one.
That perspective doesn’t erase the discomfort—but it changes how I carry it. It anchors me when everything else feels shaky. It helps me stay grounded in peace instead of spiraling in panic.
Hope isn’t about ignoring reality. It’s about remembering where I’ve placed my trust. And that begins in my mind—before it ever shows up in my actions.
We Are Not Powerless
I can’t control what’s happening around the world. But I can control what’s happening in me.
Jon Acuff said it best:
“You don’t need a new day. You need a new mindset.”
And he’s right.
I can choose what I dwell on. I can choose what I speak into the people around me. I can choose whether I show up with fear—or with faith. And I choose which one I spread.
What if I believed I was made for this moment?
What if hope-filled leadership wasn’t naïve—but necessary?
What if peace doesn’t come from escaping hard things—but from choosing to reflect and spread something higher in the middle of them? Like integrity, resilience, purpose, and hope.
That’s who I want to be. That’s who I’m becoming—even now, today.
What Happens When I Get This Right?
When I reclaim my focus, I show up differently. I think clearer. I lead stronger. I love better.
I stop spinning my wheels in fear or frustration—and start moving with purpose.
I’m not perfect at it. But I’m learning:
When my mindset is aligned, energy returns. When my purpose is clear, conviction follows. When I’m grounded in hope, I stay steady—even when the world isn’t.
That’s what makes real impact possible—in business, in relationships, in life. It’s how I stay anchored to who I am—and who I’m becoming.
This Is Your Invitation.
If the world feels noisy, you’re not alone. But you don’t have to let the noise define you.
Let’s stop letting the wrong focus steal our best energy in any area of our lives. Let’s choose alignment over anxiety. Let’s live with clarity, courage, and hope.

Because the world needs more people who refuse to give up and who choose to focus on what matters most:
Character. Compassion. Conviction. And the courage to live it out.
